My Story

In the heart of Donegal, on the Wild Atlantic Way of Ireland, lies Dunfanaghy – a village of just 268 people, yet home to countless friends. 

This place has been my everything. Always returning to re-charge, to re-energise, to reconnect with nature. To find myself again.

And then I saw the same in others; other people in my place, but equally their place. They felt the same. Sometimes they kept it private; the need for this place, the benefits it brought. Sometimes they spoke of it. At times they sang about it; quite often in fact. Either way the impact was clear to be seen. I was not alone in my emotional connection, in feeling the healing powers of this Place and its People.

Then I noticed something else. Whilst this was "my place" and yes "others' place too" wherever I travelled in the world my special place seemed to be known about, it was special to people the world over. But how with such a small population?

This was the question I kept asking myself until I realised the importance of people having a connection to special places, and the people they meet in these places. These connections being key to our human happiness, to our very souls. 

I wasn't alone in my thoughts, in my need and in my positive gains from special Places and People.

So HeartRock.Life was born in this thought process, through my connection to my place and the people I have met and continue to meet in Dunfanaghy, Ireland. And so I was driven to find a way to acknowledge and celebrate this in a unique, emotional yet playful manner.

The design itself is inspired by the plaques you see on buildings. The places where the historically famous once lived — a lasting marker of those people and their connection to a place. In the same way, HeartRock.Life marks the deep bond between people and the places that shape their lives. 

But it doesn’t stop in Dunfanaghy, Donegal or even Ireland. The HeartRock.Life concept has been skillfully designed to adapted to any town, village, or county

that people feel a connection with – playfully building from the location’s typically small population size versus the much greater impact it has had on many people

over the years. A celebration of the delta. A call to be part of the understanding. A call to connect.

HeartRock.Life is about belonging, wherever you are in the world, and knowing that belonging is good for the soul.

I hope in bringing this concept to market, I reward those places in an ethical and meaningful way.

With routes in historic building plaques HeartRock.Life grows the connection from the Place to the People. Those you met. Those you didn't but who were also there. 

The distressed looked gives a nod to the longevity of the these bonds, known and unknown. Finally through the simple use of numbers the design shows the impact, from often very small official populations to the materially large number who have made the connection over time
